Witnessed accounts

All of a sudden I heard a small dog bark just a few feet to my left, near the stairway leading down to the museum. No dogs were allowed on the grounds

The sixth sense

Those who report seeing this figure associate it with feelings of depression, fear and malevolence.

Folklore and stories

5 different ghosts are said to reside here. According to the legend one ghost is the spirit of Margaret Pomeroy, who was imprisoned in the dungeons by her sister Eleanor. Eleanor was jealous of both her beauty and her affections for the man she had designs upon. Margaret slowly starved in the dungeons, a long drawn out and painful death. Whether she is the source of the feeling of unease and horror some people experience at the castle is unknown. There is also an elemental beast that has drooling saliva from its fangs.

General History
It is said that the ruins of this very old castle are among the most haunted in England.
