His Master's Voice, somewhat muffled

A dog has saved its owner's life by attacking a bear which had his master's head in its mouth.

Swedish elk hunter Goran Ryman says he could hear his skull cracking against the bear's teeth.

His dog, Birk, bit the bear's leg, making it release its grip. It then ran after the dog, which was found unharmed.

Mr Ryman, who had 50 stitches in his head wounds, told the Aftonbladet newspaper: "First, it ripped a piece out of
my thigh and arm before going for my face. At one point it had my head in its mouth and I heard my skull
cracking. I thought that my time had come."

Birk, a Norwegian elkhound, bit the animal's leg and ran off into the forest closely followed by the bear, Mr Ryman
adds.

He was hunting in central Sweden when the attack happened.

He called his hunting party who organised an ambulance to take him to hospital.

He's now recovering
