According to tradition this little pub was built on the site of an ancient monastery equipped with a 30 feet deep well. During the last 20 years the ghostly figure of a hunchback has been seen occasionally by residents near the bricked up well in the yard. Mrs. Bradbury, wife of the licensee in 1971, said that she too had witnessed the phantom, usually late in the evening just before locking up.
