Reiki is a technique for healing or mental disease. It is normally taught by a Reiki Master or an experience accredited Reiki Practitioner. The Reiki practitioners flow energy through their palms to specific parts of their body. Reiki healing is often done with Reiki music. However, any soothing music will do. Alot of people are going for the alternative medicine.

Healing is a good way of feeling better and it is the spiritguides who helps the Reiki practioner, to heal the person wanting the healing done. Many people are now using this as an alternative medicine and there are more and more people who are open minded about it.

The Reiki practitioner hovers his or her hands over the patient and will heal from head to toe as the patient willbe laid down.

The original description of Reiki posted by Weirdspirit basically correct but is unfortunately not 100% accurate. This post is not meant as a snub or a put down to Weirdspirit, so please do not take it as one.
Reiki healing is one of the only forms of "spiritual healing" that works on all levels, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. The practitioner can heal by touch, using his/her hands in a sequence of positions to "cleanse" and heal various parts of the body (many of which correspond with the Chakras) or situations within the recipient.
Alternatively, the recipient does not have to be in contact with the healer, this is known as Distant Healing and is one of the most fascinating things about Reiki! With the use of sacred symbols known to Level 2 Reiki Practitioners and also other symbols known only to Reiki Masters a Reiki Practitioner can send healing over great distances, even around the world!
Reiki is now being recognised as being so benificial that many Family Doctors, General Practitioners and even Senior Citizens and Nursing Homes are encouraging it as a complimentary therapy, many even have their own "Resident Reiki Practitioners".
To become a Reiki Practitioner takes a lot of time and effort. You have to initiated by a Reiki Matser/Teacher through various stages (or levels) and learn how to channel the Reiki Energies for the highest good of all. To become a Reiki Master / Teacher can take many years of study and hard dedicated work. Being a Reiki Master/Teacher is recognised not not so much as a healing method but a total "Way of Life" with the Healer living his/her life by 5 (main) principles.
There are many good web sites giving fuller explanations of Reiki and how it works, I would urge anyone interested to look at these and to read the testimonies of Reiki recipients.
