, FREEBIRD AND I HAVE DONE OUR FIRST INVESTIGATION FOR THIS FORUM

brief history

Pontefract has had its fair share of stories over the last few years regarding alleged ghost sightings throughout the town.
The Red Lion Pub Pontefract is a 1600 century building was originally a coaching Inn and residence before becoming a hotel. The hotel closed its doors around 50 years ago but the pub stayed open, However, the previous owners were plagued by strange happenings about 20 years ago so decided to screw shut every door on the 2nd floor heading towards the Great Hall along with the corridors leading to it, and all the doors on the 3rd floor, they stayed sealed until the new landlord took over in 2006.

Not deterred or worried by the local stories he re-opened the rooms, but by doing this opened up something else and the strange occurrences started to happen again.
The current landlord says that he has experienced all sorts of strange happenings which include footsteps, objects being thrown, strange lights and dark shadows being seen.

The ladlord told us that a medium had visited the building in the past and told him about the alleged dark past she had uncovered which tied in some of the history of the building which included, the third floor being once used as an illegal abortion clinic. A ghost of a lost child in one of the hotel rooms and also evidence of black magic having once taken place in the main hall.

The Investigation

Freebird and I had been out for the day and had happened to spot at the
Red lion pub at about 19.45 pm for a drink on the 22nd March 2008.
Me and Freebird where talking about ghosts and the pub landlord ( Toby)overheard us, and started talking to us about the strange ghostly things that had happened in the pub, He was very kind in allowing us permission to have a wonder around the upper floors of the pub.

The Main Hall

In the main hall freebird saw what she thinks was a orb (small circle of light near to a mirror which is over the large fireplace.

The temperature in the room seem cold and we both felt a sense of uneasiness . I picked up on a black shadow lurking around a door way to the great hall which i felt it seen to be watching us. Our camera wouldnt work correctly in this room, ( kept dying on us, sorry about the pun). Freebird sensed people stood in a circle heads bowed down chanting, feeling of evil.

The Priest Corridor

again we both got the feeling of being watched by something that clearly didn’t want us there, an very tense atmosphere, a few strange noises, scratching sound ? heard in this corridor area. We didn’t spend much time in this location due to the very oppressive feeling atmosphere

Bedroom 14
A few minutes in this room, i picked up on a young girls spirit being in- prisioned or trapped in there ? out in the corridor of this room a orb was witnessed visually by myself pass by the rooms door as i turned to walk out of the room into the corridor was now felt cold. Freebird sensed again that someone was "following us" around and was following us both on the 2nd and 3rd floor, it was annoyed a us being there she felt.

Freebird had picked up on a very angry man on the 2nd floor room he gave off a feeling she said of being frustrated at something ? I was not sure if it was him following us around ?

I sensed a young boy aged about 6 to 8 while on the third floor, both of us sensed crying, screaming women ?

Freebird kept sensing coffins, grave digging and undertakers

while we where sat in the pub bar area.

The Attic
Both Freebird and i sensed that there was a presence of a man in the attic, freebird thought she heard the attic door creak open and close all by itself when we were in the room and had our backs towards the door . The landlord does not know much about the history of the attic,

Conclusion

WE left the Red Lion around 01-40 hours, Freebird was a little spooked to say the least at the nights events ( her VERY FIRST INVESTIGATION, altough id say she has natural medium skills and should learn to use them and not be afraid;- suppose thats hard to say) we both agreed that SOMETHING haunts this place that we had investigated, not that we were able to capture anything on film ( camera wouldnt work for 95% of the time we were in the pub) but the actual atmosphere feeling in the place and the two orbs we did see with our naked eyes.

A few small strange things happened on the night that we could find no rational explanation, this was OUR FIRST investigation though that we had done for this website, Altough madmart as been on investigations with groups many years ago in the past , this investigation was just a chance happening
