"Miles" Cemetery;- Illinois USA"Miles" Cemetery
The Miles family, a wealthy family, moved to Illinois in the mid to late 1800’s. They purchased land on top of, and below a large bluff. On top of the cliff, they built their home, giving them a view of the slaves working in the fields below. At that time, slavery was abundant in the area.
As the family members began to pass away, part of the land on top of the bluff was sectioned off for the families graves. When the last member of the Miles family died, the home was demolished and the entire plot of land became the family cemetery.
In the early 1900’s some of the stones were removed for excavation purposes. In the process, some of the bodies were misplaced. The markers were eventually put back in place according to what workers thought to be correct. In the mid-1980’s there were many reports to the local Police that vandalism was occurring in the cemetery. This vandalism may be the reason there were so many reports of the land being haunted. The Miles family was very protective of what they had, and may still be!
