Atkinsons Mill, Colne Bridge, HuddersfieldIn January 1818 there was a catastrophic fire at Atkinsons Mill, Colne Bridge, in which 17 young girls between the ages of 9 and 18 lost their lives.
The mill is long gone but after the fire the bodies were laid out at the Spinners Arms nearby, it is said that they still make there presence felt on occasions. The pub was renamed a few years ago but still remains having just reopened under new tenure.
