The Towers History
Betsy Grimballs Tower is situated in the town of Tavistock in Devon, in the heart of the town close to the vicarage nothing much remains of the old gatehouse.
The remains of the abbots lodgeing and westside gatehouse rebuilt in the 15th century the gatehouse traditionally know as Betsy Grimbals tower openned onto the gardens and fishponds, of the Abbey which is no longer there. Below the archway is a sarcofagus unearthed when the cloisters and chapter house were demolished in the 18th century.
The Ghosts
The tower isnt just an old part of history but it too does have its ghosts.
a story is told that in the 18th century a girl was lured there by a sailor
he murdered her in the tower, now it is said she haunts the old building.
people have felt very uneasy and come over feeling depressed and scared here for no reasen. An imprinted emotion from the past perhaps?. The ghost of the girl has been seen inside the main part of what remains of the tower where she was killed by the sailor.
she is not the only restless spirit here, Betsy Grimball herself is said to haunt the tower of the building. As when she was alive she watched over the place and aparently still does.
