Conisborough Castle South yorkshire

This 12th Century castle is home to two ghosts. Both a 'grey monk' and a lady dressed in white flowing robes have been seen. Residents of this quaint village have suggested that local fine ales may be partly responsible for witnesses seeing these apparitions. A great number of people however believe this castle is haunted

Spofforth Castle North Yorkshire

A holding of William de Percy, one of the early supporters of William the Conquer, who was given vast tracts of land in Yorkshire for his brave service.

The family stayed at the castle for 300 years. The house was fortified around 1308, and renovated in 1559, but was ruined during the Civil War. A ghost only visible from the waist up has been witnessed jumping from the top of the 13th Century tower by several witnesses. One sighting was in October 1969

Temple Newsam House

The birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots' infamous consort Lord Darnley is said to be home to a string of ghosts.

A knight in armour, a young boy, a monk and a manservant who was hanged for murder have all been spotted roaming the house and grounds.

A woman in white has also been seen on many occasions. She is believed to be Lady Jane Dudley, a young lady who fell under the spell of Lord Darnley.

Sadly her love was un-reciprocated, and news of Darnley's engagement to Mary Queen of Scots was too much for the infatuated youngster and she was later found in her room hanging from her girdle.

Whitley Beumont Hall

Whitley Beumont Hall was located on the out skirts of Dewsbury and Mirfield in West Yorkshire. All that remains to day is the ruin of the former summer house known locally as "The Temple" or "Black thingy's Tower" it is located near to the historic public house the Hare & Hounds on Liley Lane.

It is said that every year on the 5th of July the headless ghost of Sir Richard Beaumont “Black thingy of the North” roams the grounds of his one time home Whitley Hall carrying his head under is arm!

History doesn't explain why Black thingy should revisit his old home on that particular night but a visit to the Hare and Hounds on a nice summer night for a few pints followed by a stroll up to the temple can be a very unnerving experience!

Hickleton

A phantom highwayman (sometimes appearing headless) haunts the main road. Paranormal investigator and author, Terence Whitaker saw him in 1953 and described the ghost as wearing a cloak and a tri corner hat and being the most terrifying experience he had known. Some folk think that the three skulls displayed in a church porch once belonged to executed highwaymen and maybe one of the skulls belongs to one of them who's ghost still appears to this day.
