Further Comments: This figure trudges across the land, forever carrying on with an unknown task that connects the two buildings.

Grey Monk
Location: Conisborough - Conisborough Castle
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: 1971
Further Comments: Sightings of this spectral figure date back to the 1770s, when he was first seen drifting among the ruins. Reports also exist of sightings of a white woman, and the sounds of quiet voices and bumping.

Floating Head
Location: Cresswell - Cresswell Crags, lake and general area
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Head unknown, hooded figure seen in 1821
Further Comments: The floating head is thought to belong to a witch, and is seen among the thickets on the waters edge. The hooded figure was watched as it emerged from a cave armed with a sword - the witness ran, and was not able to pinpoint the cave on his return.

Further Comments: This phantom old woman steps out in front of incoming cars, hitting the bonnet and convincing the driver that they have hit a living person, until the area is searched by police who find nothing.

Whistles and Bells

Further Comments: When in use, a number of police officers reported strange occurrences in the building, including whistling, doors opening and closing themselves, cold spots, and ringing bells that were connected to empty cells.

Further Comments: Killed by soldiers from an age ago, this phantom now drifts aimlessly around the moors

Walled Up
Location: Keighley - East Riddlesden Hall

Further Comments: When they were discovered in each others arms, the wife of the Hall's owner and her secret lover were forcefully separated - she was locked in her bedroom and he bricked up behind a wall. Needless to say, they both starved to death; she now manifests as the Grey Lady and ascends the staircase, and he peers out of a window at passers-by. A white lady also haunts the site, as does a Highlander, and a coachman who walks on the surface of the lake looking for his sunken coach.

Further Comments: This spectral dog appeared briefly to prevent a robbery on the roadside, vanishing once the threat had passed.

Robin Hood's Grave

Further Comments: A grassy mound in the park is said to hide the body of folk hero Robin Hood, the location where his arrow landed after being fired from his death bed from Kirklees Abbey. Some claim to have seen a ghostly arrow hit the spot before vanishing.

Further Comments: Murdered on New Year's Eve, 1812, by persons unknown, Mary's wraith has appeared several times since.

Further Comments: Seen crossing the road in front of a car, these figures looked ragged and battle weary, dressed in clothing that matched that of the 1644 Battle of Marston Moor. Local reports say the battle is sometimes replayed in full, normally on foggy nights.

Further Comments: The sounds of a hymn being played on the club's organ were reported, though there was no one on the instrument at the time. A shadowy figure has also been reported, as have cold spots and strong bursts of wind.

Further Comments: These figures who once worshipped at the priory can be seen drifting through the mist when weather permits.

Well Dressed Man
Location: thingytone - Cannon Hall, area around the Deer Shed
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Nineteenth century
Further Comments: This figure, which would disappear if approached, was thought to be the ghost of a local man who had fell in love with a family maid; they had arranged to run away together, but this was prevented, so the man joined the army. He died soon after, and his ghost returned to what should have been his romantic rendezvous point.

Drifting Monk

Further Comments: This hooded spook has been seen slowly moving around the ruins of this once proud abbey, as has the shade of a grey lady. The site is also home to a wishing well.

Pilots in Hanger
Location: Rufforth - Rufforth Airfield
Type: Haunting Manifestation
Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: A disastrous bomber landing resulted in almost a dozen deaths, a wrecked farmhouse, and three more bombers ruined as they sat on the ground - the crew of the aircraft responsible have been observed in a hanger on the site.

Old Lady
Location: Sheffield - Middlewood Hospital

Further Comments: This old lady has been seen wandering around the former Ward Eight, where she disappears when she walks through a wall. There are also stories of disembodied footsteps running on the stairs.

Further Comments: This traditional white figure supposedly haunts the grounds of both the hall and the abbey. The latter location is also the home to a spectral monk

Norah the Maid
Location: Sheffield - Firth Park Brushes (former school), Barnsley Road

Date / Time: Twentieth century
Further Comments: The maid, who committed suicide on the site two hundred years ago, is still said to wander the area. When the high school stood on the area, cleaning staff reported lights that would turn themselves on, amongst other strange phenomena. A priest was called to exorcise the land in 2003; it is too early to say whether he was successful.

Further Comments: The reenactment of Harold's 1066 victory has been observed in the skies over the field where much blood was shed.

Further Comments: The scene of many accidents (over 120 since 1988, with 23 dying since 1998), the area is said to be haunted by several ghosts; a hooded man has been seen here, as have Victorian children.
