Ghost of a linesman;- Severn Valley Railway KidderminsterA volunteer steam railway enthusiast for the Severn Vallery Railway which runs from Kidderminster To Bridgnorth, tells me that he and 7 other
guys where testing the line at Bridgnorth during the summer of 1987. They
were nearing the Knowlesand tunnel when they saw about 15 yards ahead
of them, a man walking away from them towards the tunnel. He was quite ordinary looking, of average height and middle aged. It had been obvious
to the steam railway enthusiasts that this other man was what they call
a permanent way man whose job it is to test the line/ rails because he
was carrying a key hammer and a fishplate spanner, but they were abit
suspicious of him because he wasn't wearing a high visibility vest. Three
of the enthusiasts were slightly ahead of the others and had turned round
to tell the others that someone else was working on the line ahead of
them without a high visibility vest on and that one of them should go
ahead to warn him that a train was due to come down the line soon,
but on turning back round they found that the un-vested man had
disappeared, but there was no where he could have walked off the line
that quickly with out any of them not seeing him do so 
The enthusiasts later learned that in 1896, a permanent way man had
been killed in the tunnel near to where they had saw him.
Had it been his ghost they had seen

Yes I have heard this one and I still find it fascinating. that would be another one to investigate.
