Ive heard that the headquarters of this club was, at one time, a farmhouse belonging to the now ruined sixteenth century hall built by Sir John Savile. The main portion was destroyed in 1643 by the Duke of Newcastle and what remained was let to various families, one being the famous Villiers.
Sometime in 1972 two people were meant to have been walking near the ruins of the old hall on the golf course ? and noticed a woman whose appearance was unusual, walking towards them. Its said they saw a lady in a long dress with a dark top and a curious red mantilla veil over her face and shoulders' this figure is said to have faded and vanished' before them
A couple of years later a mill worker, was walking his dog late at night in the same area when he saw two men and a woman in the same area, who he first thought were golfers' 'but his dog is meant to have barked and growled at them they just vanished'. The figures he saw were meant to have appeared in dark loose clothing of an early period to him.
