Skipsea Castle Bridlington

Skipsea Castle

Bridlington

The ghost of Lady de Bevere, is said to have regularly haunted the remains of Skipsea Castle site since Norman times.

Lady de Bevere was the niece of William the Conqueror and is listed in history to have married a Drogo de Bevere after the Battle of Hastings (1066) . Drogo is meant to have fought so fiercely in battle that William had rewarded him with his niece's hand and Skipsea. Drogo was said to have been a brave soldier, but its also was said that he was a cruel and brutal husband, father and master. Lady de Bevere remained faithful to him for a long time but even she turned against him in the end ,as a result he poisoned her and hid the body. Drogo, on the pretext of visiting his birthplace, managed to escape William's revenge for his nieces murder, but since that time, Lady de Bevere has been seen many times at Skipsea, both during the day and night.

Nothing remains of Skipsea Castle except for the castle mound .
