The Skirrid Inn ;-Abergavenny

(was written and posted by madmart former forum's  ADMIN )

The Skirrid Inn

Just beyond Abergavenny on the A465 towards Hereford lies "The Skirrid Inn". Alleged to be the oldest and most haunted pub in Wales it has a dark history. "The Skirrid Inn" is first recorded in records dated 1110, known then as the "Millbrook" alehouse it was well known for trials and hangings. Indeed, the first records from 1110 mention two brothers, James and John Crowther accused of sheep stealing. John ended his life at the end of the rope swinging from a beam over the stairs. It has many hauntings, those of the victims of the rope, the Price family (who are buried in the nearby churchyard), and allegedly the ghost of "Hanging Judge Jefferies" whose "clean up" campaign may have helped him to the position of Lord Chief Justice in 1683.
