This is a legend that I've heard my entire life; and I can't believe I forgot about until now. Supposedly, there was a middle-aged man that lived on a large farm in a place called Four Mile with his six children. There were two boys and four girls. He was a heavy drinker, and physically abused the children regularly. One night, when he had had a particularly high number of drinks, he exploded on his wife, and beat her to death because he said that she had been cheating on him with a neighbor. She tried to tell him that she hadn't, but he was already in a drunken rage, and it was too late. The two boys attempted to stop their father, but they were too small, and he flung them both through the house like rag dolls. While he was still beating their mother, the two boys ran into their sisters' bedroom and got them out of the closets, where they had been hiding since the commotion had started. All six kids ran outside, and started off through a field toward their neighbor's house, where they had planned to barricade themselves at until they could phone the police. But before they could make it there, their father had caught up with them. He had brought a large stick, and smacked their legs out from under them. He then proceeded to tie them all up to several large maple branches that hung low to the ground. He left them all hanging there and went back to his house where he eventually p***ed out. The next morning, he woke up to discover that he had murdered his wife, and his children were missing, and he didn't recall any of it. He went outside to dispose of his wife's body in a nearby well, which is when he spotted his children hanging from the tree. He immediately lost his mind, (again), retrieved a revolver from his truck, and shot himself in the head. This of course became fodder for the local teens to prove their manhood. When you go out to the deserted farmhouse and walk toward the tree, as the story goes, you can see sets of eyes start to glisten from out in the tall weeds, and the giggles and laughter of children is said to be heard from all around. Also, you are supposed to be able to hear a woman screaming, and a gunshot. I myself have never tried the legend out, but I've heard of kids saying that it is indeed true, and that they will never return to the place. Who knows?
