It seems like most of my life I have had experiences, preminissions, what ever you want to call it. I first started to recognize when I was in my early 20's. When my ex husband and I first got together we lived in an apartment. One evening while we were asleep he woke up and saw someone standing in our bedroom doorway....he described the figure as a naked woman, he thought it was me coming back from the washroom, but when he put his arm out to see if I was in bed...In deed I was in bed so we never figured out who or what that figure was. Numerous things happend in that apartment, you often would feel a presence a cool breeze across your shoulder or back.....it was while living in that apartment that I started to get very uneasy preminissions. The best way I can describe it is I just felt like something was wrong...something terrible was going to happen....it would wake me at night...my heart racing...it got to the point that I would call family memebers to make sure things were ok. On three of those occassions they were not. On one such occassion my brother who was 26 at the time had a cardiac arrest and had to be revived, my nephew died from SIDs and my mom was having heart problems.....So many things.
When I was in high school I went and stayed at my sisters place for a few weeks and babysat her kids while she and her husband went on holidays. That was the creepiest house I had ever been into. Almost on a daily basis something would happen. One day I was sitting down stairs watching TV and doing laundry. The children were down for their naps.....I hear the crib rocking....I thought the baby was waking up...so I go up stairs to check on the baby....baby is sound asleep...no movement at all.....I go back down stairs only for this to repeat itself a coupld of more times. On another day, I was again downstairs doing laundry when I swore I heard the back door open and a dog come into the house....my sister had told me they would have one of their friends come check up on me occassionaly to make sure I was ok....anyhow, this particular day I could have sworn the friend was coming in the door from the garage...so I called upstairs to let him know I was down stairs....no response....I called again....no response....I go up stairs most certain that he would be there....but no one...nothing.....the door wasn't open nothing. I hated that house...when I got a little older I asked my sister about it...she said she thougt she experienced things as well....I always wondered if it had been built on native land or on a burial or something.
I have many more stories to share...some as recent as this past weekend...would love to hear for any of you.....my sisters call me the resident spook, because of my preminissions.....is there some safe way to see if one can hone those skills?

Hi smiles4u2
welcome to the forum, i hope you enjoy it. I dont know wheather or not you have spiritualist churches in canada. If you do then maybe it would be a good indea for you to join a open circle class, this is a meeting which in the UK tends to take place each week where you can go along to ask questions about delevoping your mediumship abilities, by learning to tune into other people senses and giving them preminissions and seeing if they are correct ect, its one of the best ways to learn and delevop your ability which you deff seem to have.
There are many good mediums out there and one of them I would say is Cassandra Eason http://www.cassandraeason.co.uk/
Also John Edwards, and a few more that you may have heard of. Also islike i said try a spiritualist church near you? Cos there is where I went when I wanted to be a medium.
Types of Psychic Abilities
Animal Telepathy - The ability to communicate with (but not command or influence) various kinds of creatures. Think "pet psychic".
Astral Projection - The ability to leave one's body and travel in spirit to another location.
Aura Reading - The ability to see the energy fields that emanate from living beings. Psychic ability can often reveal itself throught the seeing of auras.
Automatic Writing - Writing through the subconscious mind without conscious thought, or through the guidance of an outside intelligence.
Channeling - Associated with mediums, this is the ability to act as a channel or vessel for an outside intelligence.
Clairaudience - Put simply, this type of ability is used to hear what is "inaudible". For example, someone with this ability could be a thousand miles way and "hear" a loved one's cry of distress.
Clairvoyance - Usually confused with Precognition, this ability actually has much more in common with "Remote Viewing", True clairvoyance is not the abilitly to see into the future, but the psychic ability to see visions of that which is hidden or far away.
Clairsentience - In this instance the psychic has an insight or "knowing" of and a hidden or forgotten fact.
Divination - A broad term that includes fortune telling, precognition, prophesy, and other methods used in an effort to predict the future.
Dowsing - Also known as "water witching", dowsing involves the use of a rod, sticks, or pendulum to locate water or lost objects.
Empathy - The talent to sense the needs, drives, and emotions of another. As with Aura Reading, psychic ability can often reveal itself through the development of empathy.
E.S.P. - Extra Sensory Perception is the awareness of information about events external to the psychic that are not gained through the senses and not deducible from previous experience. Often used to describe clairvoyance, precognition, telepathy, etc...
Intuition - Similar to clairsentience, this is the power or faculty of attaining direct knowledge or cognition without rational thought or inference.
Levitation - The ability to cause one's body to hover off the ground. One of the more well-documented cases of levitation involved St. Theresa of Avila during the 16th century.
Mind Over Body - Suppressing or mentally satisfying the need for water, food, or sleep. There is some debate over whether this is actually a psychic ability since many of those who are associated with this trait (monks, yogis, mystics, etc...) are not generally called "psychics".
Precognition - Quite simply, "knowing the future". However, since time is a dynamic construct, no one psychic can ever know every detail about the future. Usually this ability refers to knowing general outcomes of specific courses of action, with occasional flashes of detailed insight.
Psychometry - Also known as "object reading", psychometry enables a psychic to pick up on psychic impressions (vibrations) left on an object by someone connected with it. Someone with this ability could use an unfamiliar object to reveal much about its owner.
Pyrokinesis - The ability to start fires with one's mind.
Telekinesis - Also known as psychokinesis, the ability to move objects with one's mind.
Telepathy - The ability to communicate mind-to-mind with another.
The 3 Basic Stages of Psychic Development
Stage 1: Those who have dabbled in developing the basic psychic ability that all of us are born with. They have played at runes, or Ouija boards or Tarot cards, read some books on the subject and perhaps had some interesting results developing one of the types of psychic abilities. Perhaps they start to incorporate a lot of New Age and esoteric vocabulary into their speech. There is nothing wrong with this - we all have to start somewhere - but unfortunately, many people at Stage 1 set up shop as “psychics”.
Stage 2: Those who have grown past being titillated by parlor tricks, and have begun to realize their psychic development is just one step on their own unique spiritual path. Those at Stage 2 can often “read the field”. This is a metaphor for seeing what is on a person’s mind and simply relaying it back to them. In essence, the psychic is doing little more than telling someone what that person already knows. While this makes the psychic look good, it is not terribly useful to the person requesting the reading.
Stage 3: At the risk of lapsing into New Age-speak, a Stage 3 psychic has the ability to tap into truly “higher energy” and go beyond telling people what they already know. They might use Numerology or Tarot cards, but they don’t need them. Tarot cards, for example, are not the source of a Stage 3’s divination, but they still have great value to the psychic as a counseling tool. And at Stage 3, that’s really what the talent is about: counseling others and giving them the insight they need to take the next step on their own spiritual journey. If a stage 3 has enough life experience, and is a good communicator, then they can become an authentic psychic counselor.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
BEING PSYCHIC
Each person is born with a certain amount of psychic and intuitive abilities. Usually one does not utilize the full potential of the amount they were originally allotted. On occasion one may experience something psychical or intuitive whether conscious of it or not. Some, may eventually choose to better develop what they possess in extra sensory abilities. Given that an individual can only develop what amount they were originally allotted, each person will experience differing levels of frequency, accuracy and strength. Also, each individual will typically have a certain speciality in areas of psychic abilities such as: clairvoyance, mediumship, telepathy, telekinesis or some other such ability. This obvious variety is a very positive sign of our own spiritual uniqueness and indicate the charts we have written for ourselves. You see, on the otherside we all have generally an equal spiritual ability. Here on the earthplane, we chose when creating our life charts to be allotted an amount and type of psychic ability which would ultimately serve us best in the specific life choosen. This explains why some people have very little ability while others are consummate. It was a choice based on your needs in this life. This should not however, discourage one from trying to develop further in this area. In trying to become more psychic and intuitive, you allow yourself to represent your two sides fully in this world; both physical creature and spiritual entity. You honour the universe you live in by trying to better listen to its's rhythems and wave lengths. As you begin to listen to the universe around you, life will become more magical. You will begin to see purpose and reason for life events. You will see yourself fitting into a larger puzzle and you will shed much of your hatreds and pettiness. Additionally, an understanding that life continues after physical death will always alter your perspective and perceptions of everyday challenges and decisions. I guarantee you, you will begin to become less negative and earthly. You will be not so quick to judge and will think twice of lies and cruelty. Developing your natural God-given psychic abilities will not solve all life's troubles. Rather, life's troubles will seem more like spiritual challenges and goals. Like, I said your perspective will be altered and for your greater good.
Apparently, when man was put on earth, god oh who ever you believe, gave us psychic abilities. Apparently, of course man was greedy and took each other's ideas and stole them and took them as their own. So they were taken off us and we then had made a subconscious and and conscious mind. So now some of us has to work for our abilities to be stronger.
Many will advocate that simply being "open" to the universe will help you become more psychic. WE open our third eye, check our chakras etc and we do other forms of developing our psychic ablilities such as using mirrors, crystal balls, anything that is to do with developing our abilities and to make them stronger. _________________ The supernatural & paranormal is out there.

What is Spiritualism
Spiritualism was brought about by the Fox sisters in the 1800's with mysterious wrappings, many tried to prove it was a hoax, but it was proved in later days not to be at all.
Through the Fox sisters came the worlds first Spiritual gathering. (more will follow on this later).
When Spiritualism first came about, it was said to be a threat to Christianity although only a small threat to say the least, why? because spiritualism is not a set religion but about believing and proving life after death, about truth, love and working in the light and serving mankind. Spiritualism lets the spirit speak and about staying free not about doctrines, whereas Christianity is about 'only believe in what we say' and this is also with other christian churches - believe as we do for we are right. Spiritualism is so different, you believe only with what you feel is right for you and also about free will.
What is a Spiritualist Church?
I have been to quite a few spiritualist churches and also christian churches. When you go to a spiritualist church it does not matter what religion you are whether catholic or C of E, its all about love and proof of ever lasting life. The churches are always warm with love and you are always made to feel welcome.
What Happens in a Spiritualist Church?
In the church you do not have priests or vicars, you have a committee with a president and vice president.
Most churches have two services a week. The Sunday one is more for worship and a week day one is more on the clairvoyance, although in both services you have prayers, healing thoughts and clairvoyance. An example of a Sunday service would be, opening hymn followed by prayers and healing thoughts, then a reading from the medium and a philosophy talk which normally comes from his/her guides, in between these you have more hymns, after this you then come to clairvoyance, the proof that we survive death, to hear that our loved ones are with us more than we think, and if we are in some difficulties in life we can be given just a little advice or comfort that things will be okay in one way or another.
Spiritual Development
Mediums, what is a medium? A medium is someone who can link with the spiritual world, and of being service to the devine, their guides and mankind. For some they are I what I call natural born mediums who see spirit from when they are young and others who develop this gift later in life. We are I think all mediums and some of us choose to develop our mediumship. There different types of mediums, for there are healers, clairvoyants, clairaudents, psychic drawers, automatic writing, and trance. Some of us who become mediums have come to this path by an accident or even a tradegy, but what ever way we come to this path we all need training.
What is Training?
Training normally consists of joining a circle of development, this is so you learn how to open up and close down when working with spirit, otherwise if spirit had their way you would be working all day every day. On these circles you will normally have prayers for healing, world peace, philosophy and the clairvoyance. Although you are all taught the same way, on this path as your development grows you should find out what your mediumship is. When finding a circle it is always best to go to one that has been recommended, you can find circles at the Spiritualist church, some of these will be open circles and that is where you can come and go as you wish or a closed circle, the latter you need to be invited on, also a closed circle is the best circle to train on as you get to know the people and the energy builds up.
Different Types of Mediumship
A clairvoyance medium is one that can see spirit sometimes it is as clear as what we see each other, other ways of clairvoyance is by seeing symbols, pictures or part of the spirit, plus with words put into your mind rather than hearing what is being said.
A clairaudience medium is one that hears spirit, like whispering in your ear, to get to this stage you may find your ears start to feel different and also with popping sensations.
A Trance Medium is one that lets their bodies be used by spirit, some just let them speak through them by using their voice box, but the medium will still sound the same but perhaps a very light difference in tone of voice, full trance is where the spirit comes into the body and talks as they were when on the earth, some trance mediums also do healing. A good trance of spirit communication was with the spirit of Silver Birch, a great many truths spoken.
Automatic Writing
Although this is around we do not seem to come across this much, this is where spirit guides and writes with your hand, normally your writing will be also of different style.
Psychic Drawing
This I find fasicinating, most mediums cannot draw, but the spirit channels through them by drawing pictures of loved ones, friends even animals. Some mediums when they do this will have a clairvoyant or clairaudient with them to give the message to whom the drawing belongs, some mediums will do both. Some mediums use charcoal, colour pencils or lead pencil all have their own way and style of doing drawings.
Psychometry
Psychometry is where we hold an object of the person and get a feel of what's been gong on. All objects we wear in one form or another collect our energy, you link in with this energy, even if you wear a ring that has been passed down in the family the energy will go back to them as well. You too can try psychometry, try holding something of a person you know little about, see what you feel, first feelings, any pictures that come to you? its a good way of starting to work with energy vibrations.
Sand Readings
This is similar to psychometry - you ak the person to put their hands into the sand and play with it for a short while, when they are finished you just put your hands over the sand and feel their energy, again you may get pictures in your head or feelings or anger or sorrow.

Psychic attacks
I have been reading lately and I came across some information that could be informative to some people. It concerns psychic attack, something that is very real and commonplace it seems. Some of the attackers may not even know they are doing it soomeone and then there are those who are very powerful and can inflict some very bad things on other people.
Do you have to believe in this sort of thing for it to work?. Definitely not. Voodoo is a prime example of such cursing. But there are very many ways to attack people. As I said, some people don't even know they are doing it.
Here are some symptoms of psychic attack. You do not need to hae them all to be under attack.
Symptoms:
1.) Unexplainable insomnia, usually associated with anxiety and/or fear of some real or imagined imminent or impending personal harm or disaster. Sleep medications used in conjunction with this situation are usually of little or no value.
2.) Restless, even violent sleep, frequently with repetitive nightmares which frequently pick up where they left off if they are interrupted.
3.) Unusually high levels of anxiety or fear during waking hours, often severe enough to cause dysfunction in routine daily tasks. Anxiety and fear may be severe enough to cause panic attacks. Anxiety and fear may frequently have no apparent foundation in reality.
4.) Unfounded and unshakable deep bouts of depression, sometimes associated with serious contemplation of murder or suicide.
5.) Unfounded and constant, unshakable fatigue or exhaustion.
6.) Periods of unexplained mental and/or physical paralysis, sometimes associated with breathing problems which may or may not be associated with an unexplained feeling of heaviness upon the chest.
7.) Unexplained feelings of being stalked, sometimes associated with sights, sounds or smells which have no rationally explainable origin.
8.) Sudden and unusually frequent, severe rash of unexplained problems/accidents/injures associated with self, loved ones and/or close associates. These problems may be physical, mental, emotional, psychological, financial, or any combination of the above.
Psychic attacks are not random acts of violence any more than any other crime is a random act of violence. Psychic attacks always occur for a reason. You may not be aware of the reason, but there is one. A real psychic attack requires every bit as much knowledge, preparation and precise execution as a professional contract hit. If you are the victim, there is a reason.
The most common reason is power. Someone is trying to control or disempower you by means of the supernatural. Here are a few less obvious reasons for an attack.
1.) a pending promotion at work with several qualified people seeking a single advancement opening. Reason: eliminate or disempower the competition.
2.) a research project or investigation that may be leading to the disclosure of something that someone wishes to keep secret. Reason: stop the discovery and/or disclosure.
3.) a love triangle that someone wishes to make a one-on-one relationship. Reason: eliminate the competition.
How can you stop the attacks? Follow the following instructions.
1. Yoga exercises. Correct breathing and the postures assumed in yoga actually stimulate and clean out your chakras. By simply doing this, you are ahead of the game. If your chakras are up and working, that is a powerful protection in the first place.
2. Black Tourmaline taped to your solar plexus. Black Tourmaline is one of the top gemstones for protection against psychic attack. By taping it right on your stomach region with a piece of tape, it will send the energy right back at the sender and leave you alone. This stops fear/anxiety/panic instantly. It works wonders.
You can also do this a little less obviously and wear black tourmaline on your LEFT side. The left is where the assault comes into your aura.
3. Jasper, Agate and Turquoise. These are three other gemstones that are used continually by Native Americans during ceremonies to protect themselves. You may wear a necklace of one of these stones, or place one of them into our LEFT pocket.
4. Visualizing white or gold light around you. If you have time, focus and intensity of thought, you can close your eyes and see this ball of white/gold light hovering over your head and then spilling down in an egg shape all around you. Make SURE you visualize the color coming beneath your feet and sealing up. If you make the mistake of not including the soles of your feet, you're still wide open for attack.
5. Prayer. This is very simple, but very effective. Ask for help from those that you believe in. In asking, you are changing the dynamic. And pray with focus and intent.
6. Flower and gem essences. Some are very protective. If you are having nightmares, then Crested Prickle Poppy is what you want to consider. If you are in a highly stressful environment, then consider Black Tourmaline. By ingesting it, it is just like taping on a small pieces of the stone to your solar plexus/stomach region!
7. Ask your Spirit Guide for protection. It sounds simple and logical but many of us just forget to ask.Simply ask yor spirit guides to "let there be a positive and reciprocal energy between me and everyone."
I hope no one needs to use this information but maybe it is helpful to someone. |

HELLO SMILES4U2 and
everyone else . As you may or may not have noticed I have been away from the forum for a while. I do hope that I have not been gone so long as to have been forgotten. When you are forgotten it is as if you did not exist at all. So, hopefully I was gone but not forgotten!
Actually I told madmart that I would be back earlier but at the time I did not know that I was about to succumb to the flu virus. I was hoping I would miss it but that was not the case. Isn't it nice that we can all congregate around the forum and talk and not have to worry about passing communicable diseases to one another?
I am glad to see that there are some new members on board and I see there are a few of you looking for answers to some serious questions. I have not been idle in my absence and and like madmart and many other members on this form we will attempt to answer some of those questions for you now. The world of the paranormal was thrust upon me several years ago and I have been collecting data on some very esoteric subjects ever since.
Our Psychic Power Centers
If you have studied the psychic realm at all then you must have come across the word Chakra at least once. Since Cindy has already covered a good portion of the chakra information, so I will only be discussing those chakras that control our psychic abilities.
What are Chakras and how do they work? Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning wheel and it refers to the seven energy centers in our body. These energy wheels regulate the flow of energy through our energy system. They also absorb energy from our surroundings much like the antenna on a radio. They open and close with our thought processes and when we feel energy around us.
Chakras ARE NOT physical. They are energy centers through which the spiritual energy flows. The seven different centers separate one level of consciousness from another. They are aspects of our consciousness in the same way that our auras are aspects of our consciousness as the mind and the physical body work in unison. For instance, we see the world with our eyes in conjunction with the visual center in our brain. Our 7th chakra also sees, but on a spiritual level. Actually they work on different frequencies much like an AM/FM radio. The radio receives radio waves but on different wave lengths or frequencies, yet the information is the same. Our eyes see color which is just different frequencies of light particles. The rods and cones in our eyes act as antennas and absorb the different frequencies of light and turn them into nerve impulses. The impulses are then sent to our brain where they are converted into pictures that we can work with.
Chakras are also how we process incoming information from the world around us. They are our own personal radios, tuning in the information we need. Our psychic experiences are controlled by several of these chakras. Chakras work much like a radio in that they absorb psychic information and have the ability to change the volume level and respond or not respond to information coming in. They open and close as they process information, much as the aperture of a camera lens opens and closes to allow more or less light though the camera lens. As the aperture opens wider, more light comes into the camera. As the chakra opens wider, you receive more energy. Or using the radio analogy, if you turn the volume up, more information is received and vice versa.
There are 7 major chakras within the physical body that run along our spine. There are also chakras in our hands and feet as well as where the median lines cross in the body as identified by acupuncture. Healers and Reiki practitioners use the Chakras in their hands extensively. Physiologically speaking, the major chakras are located where groups of nerves meet to form nerve centers. They are also related to the endocrine gland system, which includes the adrenal gland, thyroid and the pituitary gland.
So, simply put, we must train our chakras to tune in and receive and translate the finite psychic signals surrounding us.
Clairsentience
Clairsentience is the ability to feel energy and is controlled by the 2nd chakra (Orange). The 2nd chakra is located just below the belly button near the navel.
Those persons with clairsentient abilities are called Empaths. Have you ever walked into a room and "felt" bad vibes, only to find out that an argument has just taken place, or have you ever walked into a church that has been active for many years and felt the calmness and serenity? You are processing that information through the 2nd chakra. So when you are feeling energy, you should validate that you are having a clairsentient experience. At that moment you are a psychic feeler or empath.
Those high in psychic feelings sense the vibrations around them and transfer those feelings into thoughts which trigger memories. They can sense dissent in a room immediately upon entering it. Some feelers have the ability to touch an object and know its prominence. This is called psychometry.
Those with this gift will trust their feelings implicitly and are usually unconcerned about time and deadlines.
Feelers:
Have are predominantly concerned for the well being and happiness of others.
Attempt to make those around them at ease and expect the same in return.
Want their work life to be as simple and comfortable as possible.
Are very adaptable and can easily accommodate others to make them happy.
Can have their feelings hurt easily.
Are vulnerable to feelings from others and may be overloaded at times if they do not learn to center themselves.
Hardly ever keep a deadline.
Can become ill if they do not clear themselves regularly of other people’s feelings.
Can become emotional very quickly.
Practicing to be a Clairsentient
The key to using psychic feeling is learning to feel the subtle vibrations around you and interpreting them. Pay close attention to how you feel when you enter a room or when a person enters your auric field. Do you feel scared, depressed, happy or maybe invigorated? Or maybe you feel a change in the atmospheric pressure, temperature, or a static feeling in the air. Those are all psychic impressions you need to pay attention to if you are to be a good Clairsentient.
Have you ever noticed how certain odors can elicit strong emotions when you smell them? Take a skunk for instance. When you smell a skunk in your vicinity you immediately know to run. Your sensory organs have alerted you to danger. Well feelings and scents both work in the same way. Each odor has a different frequency and your sensory glands can read those frequencies. The odor of a rose has a different frequency than a skunk so you can differentiate between the two. Feelings are frequencies or vibrations also. Your chakras work by differentiating different frequencies and presenting them to your brain for processing.
An old, but proven practice for training your ability to feel energy is by using Billets. It requires at least two people but more would be better.
The simplest form works thusly. Each person brings in three or more photos from home. They should be photos of people that no one else in the group knows but of someone you know quite well. Later on you can include inanimate objects rather than photos.
The photos are all put into separate numbered envelopes. The envelopes are then passed out to each participant and, without opening the envelope; the participant must describe, in as much detail as possible, what they can feel about the person in the photo. As the description is given someone else should write the information down so that after the experiment the accuracy can be known.
Yes, this is psychometry but it is in a controlled situation and is an excellent way to train yourself to feel energy.
When doing this practice, always remember to not force a situation. Gently open your feelings to your surroundings and read the energy. When doing this practice you are also developing the chakras in your hands so that they will begin to respond and absorb different vibrations.
Clairvoyance
Clairvoyance is the ability to see pictures in your minds eye. It is controlled by the 6th Chakra (Indigo), usually referred to as the 3rd eye. It gives us our ability to visualize, which should not be confused with our ability to trust or validate that which we are seeing. Visualization is the most important tool you will use as you develop your clairvoyance. It is a tool in which most all of use on a daily basis. By working with your visualization skills, constantly practicing your ability to visualize, it will become easier for you to accept the information that comes in on clairvoyant levels.
At this very moment, can you see in your minds eye your automobile or the place where you work? Can you see your bedroom or the people you work with? Can you see the vacation you took last year or the face of your mother? Can you see all of these things in your minds eye, clearly, easily, and effortlessly? This is the place that you go to visualize. It is also the place where you see things on a clairvoyant level. It is like having a movie screen in your head and it is located just above and between the eyes.
Some say it is all in our imagination and it really is actually. But what is imagination? Is it just made up nonsense? If that were the case then all the scientists and engineers have been fooling us for a long time. I believe that most of the scientific breakthroughs through the centuries have come from a clairvoyant impression passed to the scientist from his psychic intuition. Even Einstein admitted to receiving information in this way.
Clairvoyants tend to work and live from a visual point of view. They see endless images one after another. When problems arise, they have the ability to see the entire picture before it happens.
Clairvoyants are:
Best at spotting problems before they happen.
Excellent at spatial problems.
Great interior decorators and color coordinators.
Great at following maps and have an excellent sense of direction.
Best at visualizing situations in their mind and then finding a solution to a problem.
Sometimes too rigid and inflexible.
Slow to react until they have the whole picture.
Usually very self-critical and tend to be perfectionists.
The worst worriers. They visualize all that could go wrong well before it ever happens. (Don't I know it!!!?)
Practicing to be a Clairvoyant
Begin by relaxing and closing your eyes. Do your meditation thing here if you need to. Focus your awareness upward toward your third eye and allow the impressions to come to you on their own. As with all forms of psychic abilities, you should expect an impression to reach you within six to ten seconds. No longer. If you do not receive one in this time then relax and start over. Be patient with yourself and allow the process time to mature.
Don't try to force a vision! Your clairvoyance comes from your third eye and as soon as you try to force it to work you will shift your vision from the Chakra to your physical eyes. This will result in seeing nothing more than the darkness behind your eyelids or some contrived vision provided by your own ego. Hard concentration will get you nowhere here!
When trying to receive an impression you should take everything very lightly and do it for the fun of it. If you force it you will miss it! Take the pressure off yourself by removing any notions that you know what you will see. Anticipation will certainly taint the results and most likely stop the whole process all together. Just let your self go and if it does not work at first, keep trying.
Always remember to go with the very first impression. Whether it seems right to you or not it is the correct answer!
Okay. Billets are great here too only this time you not only feel the photo, you try to actually see the photo.
Clear you mind! This is where good meditation skills come in handy.
As soon as the impressions begin to flow speak or write down what you see. Do not analyze the data! As soon as you analyze, your ego takes over and taints the results. If your ego already knew all the answers then you would not need any psychic abilities would you? So practice your meditations to learn to shut that little voice in your head off and allow the psychic impressions to come in. Only use the little voice to describe what you see. Some, like my self have a tendency to shut the little voice off so well that nothing gets through. That is what over concentration is. Try to relax and let it flow gently into your mind.
Some do not use their clairvoyant abilities because they expect detailed photographic images. This is seldom the case at first. You will usually receive faint impressions at first and until you recognize them for what they are you will not progress very far. Each of us will have different psychic strengths and will receive different impressions and styles of clairvoyant images.
Recently as I was studying I suddenly got impressions of memories from years back. After thinking about what happened I realized it was a message to me that I have been using clairvoyance all my life. It just was not in the form I had expected, judging from all the movies I had seen and books I had read. When I was an Electronics Systems Engineer I used schematic circuit diagrams constantly. Sometimes when I would be working on a very difficult circuit problem I would imagine the circuit in my mind and eventually I would see the solution to the problem. Many times I would go to bed at night and see the problem in my minds eye just before falling asleep and the solution would be mine when I awoke. That is clairvoyance. It is simply Gods way of helping us find solutions to our problems.
I remembered one particular instance where I was the manager of a radar installation and I had just hired a top rate Air Force radar technician. One day we had a PPI radar scope go down and we had to get it up as quickly as possible. I asked him to take care of it and he challenged me to show him my troubleshooting skills. I said “okay, get me the schematic and I will give you a lesson.” When he handed me the diagram I pointed to a particular transistor, out of hundreds of transistors, and told him to replace it because it was bad. About 15 minutes later the scope was operating and from that day on he never questioned me again.
Fortunately I no longer ponder circuit diagrams in my head but now I do cabinet making. A few years back I made a curio cabinet for my wife and not having many wood working tools I did what I could with simple hand tools. Well, the cabinet is the first thing you will see when you walk in my front door but I cannot truthfully take all the credit for it. I look at it now and have no idea how I did some of the work on it. That was the part that one of my Guides who was a fine cabinet maker in the old days helped me with. That is where the clairvoyance comes in. We worked as a team on that cabinet.
Intuition
Intuition, or knowingness, is an ability of the 7th chakra (purple). It is the ability to just know stuff. The 7th chakra is located on the top or the crown of the head. When you work with information on knowingness levels, you don't know how you know something, you just know it? It just pops into your head like those little pop-up screens on the internet. Since the 7th chakra sits on the top of the head, the body and the other chakras do not have the opportunity to process the information involved. You are saying something literally right off the top of your head. This is your knowingness at work or should I say, this is real hoodoo at work for that is the way it feels. You are talking to someone and you suddenly say something very profound but you haven't a clue where it came from. The nice thing about it is that it is always the truth. It never fails!
Psychic Intuitive’s, or prophetics as they are sometimes called, are people who refuse to plan ahead. They are not being irresponsible because they have the ability to know what they need to know before the time comes. The road map has already been shown to them. It is an inner awareness that comes to you automatically. The information is transferred to you directly without words or pictures. You just suddenly know the outcome of a situation or what is going to happen next or even what someone is about to say before they say it. It is the phone call we know we are going to get and the person we know that is calling us.
Those high in Intuition act as though they are always in high gear. They are constantly bombarded with thoughts and if they do not act or talk about that thought right away it will vanish immediately and new ones will flood in. It is as if they are having awake dreams about the situation at hand and the dreams are fleeting, just as they are when you awaken from a real dream.
Intuitives:
Are like a chameleon. They change quickly to the circumstances, always adjusting so they will fit in. They always know how to react around you.
Never worry needlessly.
Are at the right place at the right time.
Are party animals.
Anticipate problems before they happen.
Have endless creative talent
Have a tendency to stick their foot in their mouth, blurting out what comes to mind before thinking.
Are easily bored.
May seem perplexed at times due to the volume of thoughts that come to them.
Practice using your Intuition
Usually you either have this ability or you don't. A lot of time you do and you don’t realize it. If you do then you have already been using it all your life. Sometimes though you doubt yourself and the psychic impressions are wasted. The old axiom, use it or lose it applies here. If you don't pay attention and follow your intuition the ability fades. It is as if you pissed off the little advisor in your head and he will no longer speak to you. You ignore him and he ignores you back.
Here is a good practice for using your intuition:
Relax, close your eyes and clear your mind. Closing your eyes always slows your brain waves, allowing you to receive impressions more freely.
Picture your Crown Chakra opening up and pointing upward like a funnel. See a beautiful purple haze surrounding it.
Guide you inner awareness upward and feel your mind moving out through the funnel as if your mind is floating in space above your head.
Think of a simple question you would like to ask and then pay attention to whatever impressions come to you. At first they may be slightly off kilter and seemingly have nothing to do with what you asked but eventually you will begin to get real answers to your questions. After much practice you will feel the sensation of heightened awareness when you do this and more information will begin to flow. Before I began using a GPS I used to use my intuition in my daily travels, as I travel a lot. Rather than get lost I would ask which road I should follow and I always get it right. I still use it, especially when my GPS is leading me down a nefarious road that I know is leading me to trouble. Florida is mostly a big sandbar and it is very easy to get stuck in the sand. I just know the road ahead is bad and I find a better route. I have yet to get lost or stuck!
Never force it. Just let it happen.
Clairaudience
Clairaudience is an ability of the 5th chakra (Blue). It is the ability to hear information, whether it is actual words or thoughts in your head... The 5th chakra is located in the base of the throat, just below the voice box. Many think that our inner dialog is just an overactive brain. We are, however, always receiving information on clairaudient levels. For example, have you ever had a problem that you could not figure out a solution for and suddenly the solution just pops into your head? This is your clairaudience at work. It is like intuition but you receive the information in words.
People who have this gift receive information in language form. Sometimes it can be so subtle that it sounds as if you are talking to yourself. Other times it can completely startle you because someone is talking to you but no one is there. People high in clairaudience are very analytical and do not feel satisfied until they completely understand an idea or plan. They want to do everything logically and are very assertive.
Clairaudient's are:
Best for analyzing a problem and finding solutions.
Able to project thoughts to people.
Good at getting key words and initial direction.
Best at getting answers to questions.
Can hear when someone is lying to them.
Least likely to become overloaded.
Slower to receive an answer than the intuitive.
Are excellent organizers of details.
Practice using your Clairaudience
Until just recently I did not know of a way for someone to train to use clairaudience. Through my years of study I mostly had one goal in mind. I wanted to see and to talk to the spirits that were hounding me on a daily basis. Well, I have seen them but I have not yet been able to communicate with them. At least not on a one on one basis as I wanted. I don’t ever want just a little bit. I want it all! I want them to stand right there and talk to me in sentences that I can understand.
Last year I had a bladder infection and the doctor gave me some powerful stuff that caused me to pee a lot. One night I was asleep in bed and I heard this very sweet voice say “Uh Oh, Raymond is about to have an accident.” At that moment I felt all this warm stuff go all over the bed. I suddenly awoke and found the bed completely dry. At that same moment I realized the premonition would become true if I did not get up quickly. Fortunately, the young lady woke me up just in time to save me from a very embarrassing situation. So they can talk to me if they want to.
Another time I was standing at the bathroom sink shaving when suddenly I heard a male voice behind me calling my name. Unless my dog can talk there was no one else there who could have called out to me. Later I was mad at myself for being startled and not answering back. I avowed to answer back the next time it happened, and boy did it!
One night my wife and I had just gone to bed and she had just gone to sleep. I was laying there trying to join her when I heard a sound like a loud radio tuned between stations. We have a sound machine we use at night to drown out street noise but this was different. It was a loud hissing noise at first. Then I heard a deep bellowing, hissing voice, like the snake on Harry Potter, call out my name. Yes I was startled. It definitely woke my ass up. But I remembered that I said I would answer back so, as best I could, I said “Hello!” There was silence at first and then the voice simply laughed and said “Hi.” I have not heard him since. Immediately after that I wondered if the story “A Christmas Carol” might have been more fact than fiction, because I knew exactly what Scrooge went through!
Later on after that I began to hear very faint voices everywhere but I began to notice it more often when there was something that produced noise around me. If anyone has seen the movie “White Noise” then they will understand what was happening. White noise is random noise that sounds like a radio tuned off frequency. It is sometimes used to record EVP’s (electronic voice phenomena). It is supposed to facilitate the spirits in developing their voices.
One day I was taking a shower and I had the exhaust fan going to keep the humidity down. I sat down on a chair to put my socks on and I noticed music coming form the fan. It was a flute, guitar and drums but too faint to actually recognize the tune and it faded in and out.
A while later I was watching TV and there was a silent portion in the movie and I heard voices that seemed to come form the yard outside but it was mixed with the faint hiss coming from the speakers. The same thing happens with the noise machine in our bedroom.
The interesting part is, I can ask my guide for help learning to hear voices and a few moments later I will hear faint voices or music. Sometimes it sounds like a group of people talking to one another, almost like a talk show program on radio but I cannot understand a word they say. I really have to clear my mind to hear anything at all, and I do believe that is the basis behind it all. My guides are attempting to train me for clairaudience. Lately the voices have become slightly louder and a couple of nights ago I heard a man singing and playing a guitar very plainly, but again I cannot understand what he says.
So, if you want to train yourself to become adept at clairaudience I would begin by getting head phones and a radio. Tune it to the white noise and ask your guides for help. You may be very surprised at what happens next, but if nothing happens don’t quit. Keep trying.
As you validate each of the psychic experiences you have, you may find that you experience one thing one time, and then you might have a completely different experience the next time. Trust that each of these experiences are true for you. And always keep with your integrity.
As you can see, working with your psychic abilities is a very experiential thing. It is not something that you can just read from a book. It is something that must be experienced first hand, validated, and then practiced and refined. Remember, we all have psychic experiences daily. It is whether we recognize that fact that will make the difference!

Spiritualism
Spiritualism is a religion, a science and a philosophy. We believe in the existence of God although our ideas about God are not fixed. We believe that all mankind should live in harmonious brotherhood and we believe that a part of man, his soul or spirit, exists for eternity. These concepts are common to most religions, however in Spiritualism we try to give people evidence that the soul exists and that after death it continues on into another realm, in the spirit-world.
Spiritualism doesn’t tell you what you should believe or how you should interpret religious philosophy. We have no books that must be followed, we have no preachers whose word must be obeyed. As a guideline to our religious thinking we have our Seven Principles, but exactly what these mean and how they can be applied to our lives is up to the individual.
The purpose for our lives and how we should live them is not dictated by Spiritualism. We have an individual flexible concept of God and beliefs among Spiritualists are often different. How we understand the world and spiritual matters depends upon our individual experience and Knowledge.
For all of history mankind has known of and experienced some form of communication with a spirit-world. Spiritual beings, or angels, have visited mankind on many occasional to give knowledge, wisdom and guidance. During sleep many people have experienced vivid dreams where spirit people have made their presence known, renewed their bonds of affection and given information.
In the 1840’s a family in America, was bothered by ‘ghostly’ noises which grew more and more troublesome. When the family spoke out and asked questions the noises seemed to respond, so they realised that a system of communication was possible; they would ask questions and receive a reply, one knock for yes two for no. By this method the family found out who was making the noises. The spirit communicator gave details of his life and explained that he had been killed and buried in the cellar.
The publicity about this incident travelled throughout America, England and other parts of the world and encouraged others to seek communication from the Spirit-world.
The logical system of ‘one knock for yes two for no’ seemed to work well for many thousands of people and formed the basis of communication. By this method spirit people explained about the spirit-world and were able to give instructions how best to develop and improve the systems of communication with them.
History of Modern Spiritualism
Spiritual phenomena have occurred throughout history. Spirits have communicated, people have been entranced, inspired and influenced by intelligences that reside in a world unseen by material eyes. During moments of ecstasy, in dreams, reveries, drug induced states and deep meditation people throughout the ages have had experience of the spiritual. Mankind’s history, literature, folk law and fairytales are full of mystical spiritual beings both good and bad. Our religions seem all to be based upon experience with the spirit world, with angel presences pronouncing coming events, spirits in dreams giving advice, spirit voices inspiring and giving courage. In fact, Spiritualism, or the belief in and practice of communication with spirits has always existed and in all nations and all periods of time.
There appears to be a distinction between the Spiritualism throughout the ages and the Spiritualism that sprung up from humble beginnings in 1848 in a small town of Rochester, Hydesville in the USA. Modern Spiritualism seems to be a new and different source of God’s working in the world whereby all people may witness and learn openly of the existence and a communication with a spirit-world.
The Fox family, upon moving to a homestead in Hydesville New York State, were disturbed by noises, knockings, movements of objects and other apparently supernatural phenomena. The two children Catherine and Margaretta discovered that if they spoke out then the mysterious noises seemed to respond. It became clear that these phenomena were not just random manifestations of energy but were under the control of some unknown invisible intelligence. In a world where such happenings were feared and labelled by many as of satanic origin, in a world where religion regulated many aspects of life and forbad spirit communication these fantastic happenings soon gained the attention of neighbours and family acquaintances. The news of these happenings spread far and wide, at times scores of bystanders came to marvel at the unexplained knockings and noises.
This is how it is claimed that ‘modern Spiritualism’ started. But through the centuries similar happenings have occurred, local inhabitants have been disturbed, so what turned the Hydesville incident into a catalyst that stimulated the beginnings of an international movement we call ‘modern Spiritualism’?
The mid-eighteen hundreds was a time of great progress, the rail road, the printing press, rapid systems of communication of postal systems and the revolutionary telegraph system meant that news of the Hydesville events could travel to communities throughout America and beyond. This was a significant factor, but it seemed that something different was coming from the spirit world itself. A new system of communication whereby knocks were seen as representing the alphabet and were a more direct method of communication that could be heard by many. And the spirit intelligences not only provided evidence as to their identity, they directed the enquiring mortal minds to investigate, to publicise and encourage onlookers, to hold public demonstrations, and to allow scientific men to scrutinise.
The Fox family suffered scorn, ridicule, and persecution but because of them the truth of spirit communication and advice from spirit people as to how to organise communication circles came and has been followed ever since. A committee of investigation was formed and communicated with the unseen intelligence harassing the Fox family. The committee listened out for the response signal knocks and they established that the communicator was Charles B Rosna, who had been murdered and buried beneath the cellar of the homestead. An excavation of the cellar later proved that there was indeed the remains of a body buried there.
The Hydesville occurrences showed that a system of communication was possible and that spirits could direct and give guidance helping the process. They explained, and it was shown to be correct, that certain people were naturally mediumistic and that communication using a code enabled strikingly accurate and detailed information to be communicated. The printing press, cheaper newspapers and books, the greater literacy amongst the people meant that many learned about this new spirit phenomena and how it could be replicated by forming circles in homes and with the guidance of the spirits themselves. So from this first modern example sprung up development groups and spiritual phenomena flowed from many quarters providing innumerable people with personal joyful corroborative evidence of the existence of a spirit world that could communicate with those still on earth. And these people in turn became advocates to the Spiritualist cause.
The first Spiritualist church opened in 1853 in Keighley in Yorkshire ENGLAND . The church was opened by David Richmond who had returned home from America bringing with him a knowledge about Spirit communication and a mediumistic ability. And in 1855, first published in Keighley, was the first Spiritualist newspaper called ‘The Yorkshire Spiritual Telegraph.’
From the beginnings in Keighley Spiritualism spread throughout the country with many notable intellectuals and socialites of the day publicly endorsing the Spiritualist philosophy. Robert Owen in 1854, scientist William Crooks in 1871 and later in 1918 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Various gifted mediums became well known and written about, they helped to spread the knowledge of Spiritualism further. Significant among these was Emma Hardinge Britten who had spread the word extensively in America. In 1865, Emma returned to her native land England and demonstrated her gift of mediumship and inspired, semi-trance public speaking on the subject of the Philosophy of Spiritualism.
Attempts were made to bring together the various individuals, Spiritualist churches, groups and societies. The concept of a national federation of Spiritualist churches was discussed and written about in 1889 by Emma Hardinge Britten in the ‘Two Worlds’ magazine, a publication she had launched in 1887. Emma arranged a meeting in Manchester of interested Spiritualists to discuss the formation of an organisation that could unite Spiritualist churches throughout the United Kingdom. The meeting held on 1st April 1890 agreed to issue a circular giving information and requesting comments from Spiritualist churches, societies and individuals. And in July 1890 a first national conference of Spiritualists was held in Manchester.
It seems that Emma Hardinge Britten played a pivotal role in organising and bringing together Spiritualists both by her powerful inspired speaking and her ability to communicate by pen and publish to a wider audience. At the first National Conference in 1890, Emma advocated her concept for the fundamental basis of Spiritualist philosophy which later became the Seven Principles of SNU Spiritualism. Resolutions were carried unanimously that have since shaped the direction of Modern Spiritualism.
This is how Spiritualism started. It grew and grew with more churches and societies represented at the annual conferences. In 1901, for legal reasons, the annual conference agreed to establish a holding company and shortly after that the Spiritualists’ National Union Ltd was incorporated as a company not for profit and registered as a charity. This enabled property to be registered and held by the organisation.
Historically, Spiritualism has been beset by prejudice from other religions and the state. Mediums could be moved on or prosecuted under the Witchcraft Act 1735 and the Vagrancy Act 1824. A campaign was started to legalise Spiritualism but even as late as 1944 mediums were being prosecuted. In 1944 Helen Duncan was the last person to be tried and imprisoned for acting as a medium, accused under the Witchcraft Act. In 1951 however the Fraudulent Mediums Act was passed that effectively legalised Spiritualists to practice their religion openly and publicly. However, harassment by the authorities still occurred, for example in 1956 the police raided another of Helen Duncan’s séances in Nottingham and 36 days afterward she died, partly it is claimed due to the shock of being disturbed from her mediumistic trance state. Even today the broadcasting media are very cautious about showing mediumship and aspects of Spiritualism in a serious way, categorising and denigrating it to mere entertainment.
In 1966, the Spiritualist educational college based at Stansted Hall, Essex, ‘The Aurthur Findlay College’ was opened. Today, as well as the college on this site, there is the headquarters’ offices of the Spiritualists’ National Union.
The Philosophy of Spiritualism
The philosophy of SNU Spiritualism is founded upon our Seven Principles. These are our fundamental core principles and yet, unlike other religions, Spiritualists can interpret them as they think best.
The Seven Principles of SNU Spiritualism in england
The Fatherhood of God.
The Brotherhood of Man.
The Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels.
The continuous existence of the human soul.
Personal responsibility.
Compensation and retribution hereafter for all the good and evil deeds done on earth.
Eternal progress open to every human soul.
The concepts and original wording of the Seven Principles came through the mediumship of Emma Hardinge Britten, one of Spiritualism’s greatest mediums and speakers. Emma was inspired in 1871, by the communicating spirit of Robert Owen, to summarise the philosophy of Spiritualism in principles that all Spiritualists would agree.
Brief Explanation of our Seven Principles
The Fatherhood of God
By the study of Nature - that is, by trying to understand the Laws of Cause & Effect which govern all that is happening around us - we recognise that there is a creative force in the universe. This force, or energy, not only created the whole universe, but also life itself in its many forms and is continuing to create today. The effects of this eternal creation can be seen around us and this leads us to the evidence that 'God' - 'The Creative Force' - manifests directly, or indirectly, in all things. We know this power as God and as we are part of the Life created by God, we acknowledge God as our Father.
The Brotherhood of Man
Because we all come from the same universal life source we are, in effect, one large family, small individual offshoot from the whole. This means that all mankind is part of a brotherhood. A brotherhood is a community for mutual support and comfort. We are all members of the same divine family. We need to share our joys as well as our burdens; we need to understand the needs of other individuals in order to assist them as part of our service to each other. As we learn to give so must we also learn to receive thereby achieving the necessary balance for our life. We must look not only to the material necessities of our fellow creatures but also to their spiritual needs and help those in need to become strong and worthy of their relationship in the Family of God.
Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels
All religions believe in life after death but only Spiritualism shows that it is true by demonstrating that communication with departed spirits can and does take place. Spiritualist Churches provide one of the venues where communication, through mediumship, is possible and many loved relatives and friends take advantage of this opportunity to continue to take an interest in our welfare. There are also spirit people/teachers who are dedicated to the welfare and service of mankind. Some (e.g. Silver Birch) bring inspiration and teachings whilst others work within the healing ministry.
Continuous Existence of the Human Soul
It is scientifically proven that matter (being part of the creative force, or energy) cannot be destroyed; it merely changes its form. Spirit, as part of the Creative Force is, therefore, indestructible. On the death of the physical body, the spirit continues as an integral part of a world, which interpenetrates our world but in a different dimension. This world is referred to as the Spirit world. In spirit life we have a spirit body, which until we progress far enough, is a replica of our earthly body. We are the same individuals in every way with the same personalities and characteristics and we change only by progression, or otherwise, as a result of our own efforts. Our personal responsibilities do not stop at death.
Personal Responsibility
This principle is the one which places responsibility for wrongful thoughts and deeds where it belongs - with the individual. It is the acceptance of responsibility for every aspect of our lives and the use to which we place our lives depends entirely upon ourselves. It is not possible for any other person, or outside influence, to interfere with our spiritual development, unless we are willing to allow this. No one can put right the wrongdoing except the offender. As we are given freedom of choice (freewill) so also are we given the ability to recognise what is right from what is wrong. We are totally, as well as personally, responsible.
Compensation and Retribution hereafter for all Good and Evil Deeds done on Earth
As with all the other Principles, the natural laws apply and this one echoes the law of Cause and Effect (as you sow, so shall you reap). One cannot be cruel and vindictive towards others and expect love and popularity in return. It must be understood that the compensatory or retributive effects of this law operate now - on earth - they do not wait until we begin to live in the Spirit World.
Eternal Progress open to every Human Soul
In every heart there exists the desire for progress and to every human spirit belongs the power to progress in wisdom and love. All who desire to tread the path that leads to perfection are able to pursue it. The rate of progress is directly proportional to the desire for mental and spiritual understanding. If we do our best in earth life to follow our inward prompting or intuitions; we shall find progress very easy, on earth as in spirit; if not, every step in advancement will follow a struggle against imperfections, which we ourselves will have worked into our natures. Within the Family of God, with all the advantages that our realisation of that state can give us, we are all given the opportunity to be responsible for our own eternal progress.
The Seven Principles of Spiritualism Explained
The Fatherhood of God
God encompasses everything. I believe God is the totality of spiritual consciousness which pervades all of the spiritual and material Universe. The physical Universe is inconceivably big with millions upon millions of stars and planets. Matter seems almost limitless and yet it is formed of inconceivably small particles, molecules, atoms and electrons. The Universe is filled with energy, everywhere there are forces and motion, immense manifestation of energy displayed in suns and minute electrical charges of one molecule rubbing against another.
Science has proved that matter is formed from energy. Spiritual philosophers state that energy is formed from the spiritual. So it can be said that absolutely everything is formed from the spiritual. The spiritual is not merely the foundation of all matter and energy but it “has soul”. A consciousness is able to outwork through it, which has knowledge, purpose and feeling and the total of this consciousness is, I believe, God. Science tells us the aggregate total of energy and matter in the Universe is finite. I believe that the spiritual is infinite and that the God consciousness is infinite.
The human has consciousness, understanding and feeling. The higher aspects of human nature, love, compassion, sympathy and affection are but feint reflections of God’s omniscient power. God is the consciousness of the infinite spiritual Universe and by definition the whole of the material Universe which is formed from the Spiritual. God’s purpose is to unfold a Universal plan of growth, change and progress.
The ‘archetypal’ father is the creator of the child, the instructor, the nurturer, guide, support, the one we turn to for help. The father may keep his distance but our welfare is paramount to him, his hand is constantly ready to guide us to safety in times of trouble. These are the qualities possessed by the Infinite Spirit, God. God possesses the creative, loving, nurturing consciousness. His Universal plan nurtures, on a small scale, us human souls and on a grander scale he nurtures the whole of creation. We all share this wonderful inheritance, God is truly the Father of us all.
The Brotherhood of Man
God is Universal, all creation, all of mankind stems from the same source, from God. Man is both material and spiritual, God’s plan and purpose apply to both the material world and the spiritual. Mankind has unity in a creator and the same great plan applies to us all. The plan is harmony, of growth, change and progress.
The Brotherhood of man is a practical Principle. As brothers live and strive together to support each other and the family, this Principle reminds us that we should do the same. We should endeavour to cooperate with our brothers. We help our fellow man and by so doing we are actively taking part in God’s plan, we bring about security, peace, kindness, beauty and joy to people’s lives.
Helping others should be done, not to glorify ourselves, not to gain favour with God but in a spirit of unselfishness. The kindly world, the listening ear, time and effort spent to help another, everyday opportunities giving a helping hand and share the blessings of this life; these if offered in a loving giving spirit with no expectation of reward, are true acts of brotherhood. We should love one another, by loving and acting with kindness a spiritual light will shine from within. Our capacity to experience God’s love will grow. We will indeed benefit, just as a person who shines a torch in the dark to guide others can then see by the light himself.
An important aspect of Brotherhood, is to shine the torch of knowledge, to inform the ignorant and the unseeing. Lack of knowledge, darkness to God or misunderstanding of our spiritual nature and potential, these are like cages trapping us and leading to unhappiness. This is where I believe a good Spiritualist speaker can help their brother man, to remove the ignorance to bring the light of knowledge where once there was darkness. This is an act of true brotherhood.
The Communion of Spirits and Ministry of Angels
This Principle is a major difference from other religions of today. Historically many religions were founded upon angelic messages and inspirational revelation stemming from the spiritual world. But Spiritualism is one of the few religions which acknowledge the continuing importance of a link to the spiritual. Communication does take place and those in spirit show and interest and help us when they can.
For 150 years communion from the spirit world has given us proof that there is an after-life. Messages from recognisable personalities, from relatives and friends in the spirit world show that death does not significantly change a person. Interests, knowledge, affections held before death remain with them into the next existence. Information gained during these years of communication has consistently confirmed that spirit people minister to us. They guide and influence our thoughts and actions. The mechanism of this guidance has been explained by them; the spirit people exist in a state of higher vibration, they are able to lower their vibration and their thoughts are received by our subconscious mind. It is a subtle influence and often we receive help without realising its source.
Some people, ‘sensitives’, are aware of the spirit people and can communicate directly with them. Some spirits are further evolved, they have progressed to higher angelic spheres of existence and constantly seek to help mankind. Angels do indeed carry out God’s work and administer to those spirits in lower spheres of existence and to us still in the body.
The Continuous existence of the human soul
Broadly speaking, each human being is an ‘expression’ of something created ages ago. Some cause generated a spiritual ‘life-force’ and today we are a manifestation of this life-force. Our life-force has taken ages to unfold, our experiences and actions have helped shape it. Our destiny is to progress into higher spiritual entities.
What are we and what are our spirits ? Perhaps, at a fundamental level, we are ‘dynamic, vortices of a tiny part of the Supreme Almighty power’, a permanent collection of God forces. Spiritualism’s mission has been to preach that we are at source eternal spiritual beings.
We are born into the material, we live, experience and learn, we ‘die’ or are reborn into an spirit world. In the spirit-world, we have form and substance but we evolve and progress to even higher levels of existence. In time we evolve into ‘higher frequency’ beings, from plane to plane of existence into eternity. Our soul never stops progress it will always exist. Eternity is a concept hard for our minds to grasp but when we come to accept it this life on earth takes on new meaning.
Personal responsibility
This Principle reminds us that we should face up to and conquer our negative tendencies. These may be thoughts or actions by which we transgress God’s laws, the laws of the natural way of things. Nature wants us to be healthy, happy, cooperative beings living in harmony with all of life. By our own efforts we should seek to lead a better life. We should strive to identify our negative thoughts and actions and personally atone for our mistakes and sins.
It is the natural way of the Universe, balance must be restored. Wrongs committed will inevitably bring to us conditions of difficulty where we must strive to put right what we have done, we must re-balance the good and bad in our lives.
Certain branches of Christianity in particular have a different approach. They believe Jesus was crucified to cleanse them of sins if they but believe in Him. Some believe praying to Jesus can free them from past sin. Some believe a confession to a priest relieves them of responsibility of wrong thought and action. This is not the way of the Spiritualist. To achieve spiritual progress we must live according to spiritual principles and we are indeed responsible.
Compensation and retribution hereafter for all the good and evil deeds done on earth
‘Reaction follows an action’, ‘for every effect there is a cause’. These are fundamental principals applying to the physical world. A correlation to these applying to Human beings is our 6th Principle.
Lives spent in service of others, performing loving deeds of nobly seeking truth and intellectual progress, these are good things. They inevitably lead to ‘compensation’, to spiritual progress and happiness. Evil lives, of cruelty, neglect of others and our own advancement will lead to ‘retribution’, sometimes painful unhappiness, a period when we must make amends. To progress we will have to struggle to put right what has been done wrong or neglected. Most religions hold a similar principle, some call it ‘Karma’ others use the metaphor ‘You reap what you sow’. Our lives, our future life in spirit is determined by our good and evil deeds now and in the past.
A golden coin, was once a raw piece of ore buried in the mud. But the ore was smashed, fired, beaten, cut and stamped to become a shining valuable thing. We are the same, with imperfections and impurities in our natures. We are compensated if we strive to beat out imperfections, we become bright and happy. If we chose to ignore our imperfection or even encourage them then the result is that we suffer and experience unhappiness.
What is evil? Evil is thought and action contrary to Gods way of things. Gods plan leads to happiness and fulfilment. Evil leads to disharmony, selfishness and misery. For some God’s plan is big, their inherited endowments, environmental conditions, their destiny an opportunity is great. For them neglect of their opportunity or deliberate turning away from it is evil. Evil is relative; a hungry thief who deprives a wealthy man of a loaf of bread is a different scale of wrong than a wealthy man stealing from the poor. For some God’s plan is humble and the lowly struggle to do humble good deeds and thoughts is enough. God is merciful and what is good or evil may vary in proportion to one’s potential.
In the spirit-world our thoughts determine the conditions in which we find ourselves. The 6th Principle warns us to live good lives to ensure that our future experience is not that of suffering but instead of joy, light and happiness.
Eternal Progress open to every Soul
Mankind has evolved from primitive barbarous ancient times. It has been a slow, painful struggle to the ‘more civilised / enlightened’ stage of existence we have in this world today. This struggle continues throughout existence on into the spiritual and will throughout time.
On an individual level, man struggles with his ‘lower animal nature’, its desires for sensuous pleasures, its greed and instinct for aggression. But we know we can progress away from this to higher fulfilment, to seek out nobler goals. We may accomplish progress but by doing so we become aware of even greater possibilities before us and spirit inform us that this expanding awareness goes on for ever.
Nature, human history and our own experience shows us that the old resists the new. Change is unsettling, it is a journey into the unknown. The competing forces of progress with stagnation cause disharmony and negative influences. The Spiritualists 7th Principle reminds us to seek out progress; that the potential for progress is inexhaustible and will inevitable lead mankind to higher and higher levels of spiritual existence. We progress as a result of our experience and knowledge and all can share in this advancement if they so desire.
