Your thoughts on this after your slow scroll down the short page.
I thought to tell this last night. Just my perception related to a traffic accident killing two older ladies colliding with a semi (lorry) tractor trailer loaded with Georgia, USA granite tombstone blanks.
I trucked livestock thru this nearby city that had built a by-pass with stop lights at every intersection. All that money and properties bought for the big change for traffic. 2.5 years went by with the occasional wrecks. In 1976 at 10:30 pm the tombstones were coming North. Well into the city at the 4th intersection the lorry hit a car as the Georgia driver with the "stones" ran a red light! Bam! The car and occupants were moved over 100 feet into a fence line at a school.
The trucker went to jail held for manslaughter. The news was big on the cities 1st fatalities on the "New By-pass"! The next day was Friday when I went for more trips to the market back to the meat packer. I saw the wrecked lorry on a wrecker being weighed at a state scales North of the city. I learned later his lorry and tombstones (strapped & chained down and visible on top) was not over the weight limits. When I saw it I could not believe he was illegaly over 73,280 lbs. Now it's 80,000 lbs.
Saturday morning at daylight I got home. My late ex-wife said her mother's friend who knew one of the deceased ladies said Thursday was their regular night out at a hotel's bar.
I called the big city's police station. I first said, "Mr. Desk Sergeant did you check the blood alcohol content of the two ladies?" He wasn't saying he knew anything of that nature, but added the trucker was in big trouble. I made another statement that he skoffed at. I said, "Thank you. I'll call the Press newspaper!"
The reporter was like a human sponge absorbing my words. I said quickly, " I believe both vehicles were ignoring a red light." The ladies, after a drink or two, were turning left on red knowing right turns were OK on red was a new state law. I delt with this left turning across my path nearly nightly! They turned across that lorrie's path as he ran a yellow to red light.
The paper investigated this and witness' could not verify the light color for the ladies. In Saturday's evening Press paper. I read that the city's law prosecutor was quoted as saying, "In this case two wrongs don't make a right". The trucker was released that day. We never met each other of course.
I've driven a lorry over 43 years and you tend to look at other loads transported. That had to be the only load of granite tombstone blanks I'd ever seen. There may have been 30 on top as a guess. The various shapes of the stones were obvious in their use! Used only in the afterlife as a purchased record of one's existance!
I wonder where all those Georgia granite tombstones shaped and inscribed so perfectly are now? I believe this was an afterlife story. After two lives were lost unnecessarily!
Don't drink and drive, never more.
MK Cody

Interesting. American law is not that different from ours.
The blame will always go onto whoever lives, its easier that way, saves the authorities investigating properly! |

Blackbird,
That does make sense. If there's a live one, stick it to 'em. Mexico's driver/crash laws are not to be made fun of if you are there in a mishap. Let's say you are rear ended, the driver who's rear ended pays the bills.Lol
One can't talk with the dead or can they?
Now I'm off to see your reply at my renewed thread. Man it was dusty down in North Carolina!
I had to give my SCANIA a bath! _________________ "So if you're tired of the same old story,.......Oh! Turn some pages!" REO Speedwagon from Champaign/Urbana, Illinois, USA. |

LOL Hope your scania washed behind its ears too!
Surely a rear end collision is the fault of the person who went into the back of you?
Some laws are so daft, makes you wonder who thought em up! |

In the UK if the light has gone to red you can ONLY turn right if your VEHICLE HAS ALREADY CROSSED THE STOP LINE TO THE JUCTION BEFORE THE LIGHT WENT TO RED AND ARE WAITING TO TURN RIGHT WITH IN THE JUCTION AREA, BUT CAN NOT DO SO BECUASE OF ON COMING TRAFFIC, you can complete the turn as the lights turn red and the on coming traffic stops, in order to clear your vehicle from the juction other wise if the light has gone RED BEFORE REACHING THE STOP LINE to the juction THEN YOU MUST STOP, and one certainly CAN NOT TURN LEFT IF THE LIGHT HAS TURNED TO RED. what a strange law you have in the US STATES ?
We are also not allowed to DRINK AND DRIVE in the UK, mainly i think becuase all the local laundry shops are moaning at the extra work they have to do from washing the clothes people have spilled their drinks drown while driving ?
FOR A BIT OF FUN, TAKE A MOCK BRITISH (UK) DRIVING THEORY TEST,
post your results here. good luck ;-

YES IT IS IN THE UK, reason giving they are behind you and should be watching the road ahead and be ware of your actions such of stopping or turning left / right from the positioning of and direction light signaling of the car in front, the car behind should also be travelling at a SAFE DISTANCE BEHIND the car in front to allow it self TIME TO STOP SAFTEY should the car in front stop suddenly for some reason. _________________ The supernatural & paranormal is out there.

I took one of Marts mock driving theory tests and failed miserably.
I am sure I put my score up somewhere. Maybe I had too many alcoholic beverages and only thought I put my score up
Have you tried one of Marts tests yet MK? Give it a go if you have not, lets see if you fair better than me
Glad I never had to take these tests when I did my driving test years ago

I must admit it. It's not the place for me to get a driver's card! Man o man. The one with the signage would not give the results in a timely manner. LOL
I did not fare well at all. But I still got the lorry driver free of prosecution for their crash so long ago. There is no tests for perception is there?

LOL I bet the guests know they get spied on via Who's Online.
To me my story above is not spooky at all. Sad by careless quirks of human nature and the nature of the lorrie's payload. Georgia granite tombstone blanks?????
Blackbird? I wonder how many members and good old guests would agree with me? _________________ "So if you're tired of the same old story,.......Oh! Turn some pages!" REO Speedwagon from Champaign/Urbana, Illinois, USA. |

Wow! You are doing your best to inspire other members and guests who kick the dust off these threads on a daily basis. LOL
The Citizens Band radio was noisey when I told this story years later, in that same city and you could have heard a pin drop at the end. The so called white noise signal meter's needle was seen all the way down.
Now here's story from our town and since it's a true (urban) local legend posts are few and far between. Weirdspirit, now Crytalcindy, has made one nice contribution. Most true American legends, even the likes Bigfoot, don't fly well in England.
